Central Tasar Research and Training Institute (CTR & TI), the pioneer research institution in the field of tasar culture is engaged in generating useful technologies through Research & Development and its effective transfer in the field. Besides overall development of Tropical and Temperate tasar silk industry in the country, thrust is given to improve the socio-economic status of the stake holders associated with tasar culture.

Owing to the technological interventions and massive extension drive by the Central and State agencies, a steady increase in cocoon and raw silk production was observed from late nineties onwards. The raw silk production which was 237 MT during 2000-01, rose to the present level of 1166 MT in 2010-11. Considering the growth attained and the R&D impetus of the Institute, the Central Silk Board has targeted the tasar silk production to 4562 MT by the end of XII plan period. The Institute pledges its conscientious efforts to achieve the target.
